 entering email-address returns: "usename cannot be empty"

 entering email-address and username returns: "Another account with that
 name already exists."

 As i understand the "Entering your email address will enable you to reset
 your password if you ever forget it." it means that because the email
 field is optional for registering, the user is encouraged to fill it,
 because it _will_ enable password reset. The form itself however does not
 seem to provide the function.

 Firefox 2.0.0.8, cookies and js enabled
