p.s. After dorking around w/the carbon variant (macports, Mac OS X 10.8) of xemacs for ~ 3 days, I can safely say that aspects of that particular instantiation are problematic. I don't know what is exactly responsible (the macport?, xemacs?, ...) but things are not straightforward when using carbon xemacs in this setting.
