I know a few us wanted to see if we could get the egg dependency story  
figured out for *NIX platforms so that a generic readline egg gets  
installed by setuptools if readline is not available.  I would be  
happy to help anyone figure that out if needed, as I have been digging  
pretty deep into setuptool, and I have a personal need to install  
IPython easily on Solaris, OS X, and many other *NIX boxes.
